आकाशगंगा (Galaxy)
ब्रह्मांड में लगभग 100 अरब आकाशगंगाएँ (Galaxy) हैं। आकाशगंगा असंख्य तारों का एक विशाल समूह होता है, जिसमें एक केन्द्रीय बल्ज (Bulge) एवं तीन घूर्णनशील भुजाएँ होती हैं। ये तीनों घूर्णनशील भुजाएँ अनेक तारों से निर्मित होती हैं। बल्ज, आकाशगंगा के केन्द्र को कहा जाता है। यहाँ तारों का संकेन्द्रण सबसे अधिक होता है। प्रत्येक आकाशगंगा में लगभग 100 अरब तारे होते हैं।
